Launched during October Campus Sustainability Month, the McGill Residential Cup used the GetGreen app to turn environmental stewardship into a high-stakes competition. 15 residence halls battled to prove which community could adopt the most sustainable lifestyle changes.

Winning Halls

The competition was fierce, but three residences emerged as the sustainable leaders of the downtown campus:

Student Interests & Custom Content

The program featured 20 campus-specific actions designed to integrate students into McGill's unique green infrastructure. The most popular activities included:

  • The Zero Waste Knowledge Test: Enhancing waste-sorting literacy.
  • Sustainability at McGill: Exploring university-wide green initiatives.
  • Plant-Based Eating: Students logged thousands of meat-free meals at campus dining halls.

Future Outlook

The 2025 Residential Cup was more than a one-off event; it served as a successful pilot for long-term behavior change. Following the success of the October challenge, McGill and GetGreen are currently collaborating on the next iteration of the GetGreen McGill program to keep the momentum alive.
